Sir Francis Drake

Sir Francis Drake, born in 1540 in England, was a bold and brilliant sailor. He was employed by Queen Elizabeth 1, as a privateer. On slave voyages to the West Indies, Drake attacked Spanish Galleons and stole their treasure.
Drake's adventures in the West Indies impressed the Queen, who asked him to lead England's first circumnavigation of the world. He left from England in his ship called The Golden Hinde Drake sailed through the strait of Magellan and into the Pacific Ocean and along the Western Shores of the Americas, and then into Asia. Three years later he returned to Britain.
